Jefferson Parish gets $32M for coastal restoration work

Jefferson Parish is receiving $32 million in state funding for coastal restoration projects in Jean Lafitte and Grand Isle.
Over $22 million in flood protection measures will be dedicated to building levees in the Rosethorne basin area of Jean Lafitte. Nearly $12 million will go toward Goose Bayou’s Penn Levee, and over $10 million will be used for levee beach stabilization repair work in Grand Isle, a news release said.
The funding is through the $350 million Louisiana’s Coastal Program through the Louisiana Gulf of Mexico Security Act.
Gov. John Bel Edwards has proposed allocating $55 million to the Coastal Trust Fund and has announced more than $300 million through the Gulf of Mexico Security Act to fund master plan risk-reduction projects across the coast over the next three years.
