Australia: Chambers Island Beach Renourishment Moves Ahead
The Chambers Island beach renourishment project is currently underway, according to NoosaNews.
During this development program, which will last three to four weeks, the contractor will dredge sand from an area between Chambers Island and the southern river bank, and then place it onto the eroded shoreline.
When the members of Maroochy Sailing Club arrived for the Presentation Day on Sunday 19 May, they were extremely pleased that the long awaited beach restoration works had commenced.
“We will soon have launching beach available again, and the safety of the island ensured, thanks to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the Queensland Department of the Environment. Work is to cotinue for the next few weeks until all the beach along the Northern Shore and the western end of the Island is restored,” they stated.
NoosaNews reports that about 2000sq m of sand will be pumped onto the island.
