Assemblymember Stone To Chair Select Committee on Coastal Protection

Assemblymember Mark Stone (D-Monterey Bay), whose district includes Capitola and Soquel, was appointed as the Chair of the newly convened Assembly Select Committee on Coastal Protection.
The committee will continue fostering the public conversation about coastal protection, said press person Arianna Smith in a press release.
In doing so, it will review renewable and sustainable ocean-based energy options, consider ways to reduce land-based marine debris such as plastic waste, examine plans to address infrastructure challenges due to sea levels rising, scrutinize the backlog of Coastal Act violations, and review proposed updates to Local Coastal Programs.
“If the state is to continue to benefit from its world-class coastal resources that support its $43 billion coastal economy, it must focus its attention now on the numerous threats the coast currently faces,” said Stone in a press release. “This committee will delve into these issues, and will work to find solutions.”
During his time as a Santa Cruz County Supervisor, Stone served on the California Coastal Commission. While there, he earned the reputation as a principled leader who protected the cherished California coastline for generations to come.
